About

Sarah Lee's deep connection with the ocean began on Hawaii's Big Island, where the gentle ebb and flow of the waves shaped her upbringing. Growing up on the island, she took to the water, becoming an avid swimmer and excelling in long-distance ocean races. Her journey into photography started at the age of 15 when she acquired her first camera.

Her love for photography found its true home beneath the ocean's surface, where she quietly honed her skill in capturing challenging aquatic moments—a fusion of her two passions.

"My photography is an endeavor to unveil the profound human connection to the world's beauty, both above and below the water's surface. I strive to capture the simple yet profound bond between people and the vast ocean, allowing this connection to unfold gracefully. It's my way of expressing unending wonder and gratitude for this intricate relationship.”

Over the past decade, her work has found its way to platforms like National Geographic, CNN, and ESPN's 'The Body Issue.' In 2018, she achieved a notable milestone by becoming the first female photographer to grace the cover of The Surfer's Journal.

Sarah's approach to photography is rooted in patient observation rather than imposing expectations, infusing her work with a gentle sense of purpose and playfulness. Her photographs reflect a quiet intimacy, capturing serenity and joy even amidst turbulent sea conditions.

Through her lens, she aims to capture the simple yet profound connection between water people and the vast ocean, allowing their stories to unfold within its depths. Beyond her professional pursuits, she enjoys dedicating her time to everyday people pursuing their passions, whether in the waves or through candid portrait sessions.

Today, Sarah divides her time between Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and the North Shore of Oahu, where she can often be found with her fins and camera, embracing the spontaneous beauty of the ocean. Her dedication to preserving the deep connection between people and the boundless ocean continues to inspire her professional journey, as she shares the stories of passionate individuals and brands worldwide.
